Kickoff to Kindergarten fair takes place at new East Las Vegas Library
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension hosts family pre-k event with community partners
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is partnering with Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Vegas PBS to host the fourth annual Kickoff to Kindergarten fair. This year’s spaced-themed event will provide children ages 3-5 and their parents with knowledge and skills to help get the children ready for kindergarten. There will be hands-on activities and information provided by various event partners, and kids will be able to meet Jet Propulsion from the PBS KIDS show “Ready Jet Go!”. The event will be held at the new East Las Vegas Library, which opened in April.
“We hope that both the children and their parents will participate in many of the different hands-on activities geared toward school readiness,” said Extension Parenting Education and Family Literacy Specialist YaeBin Kim. “These activities and resources help families understand Nevada’s Pre-K school standards.”
The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the East Las Vegas Library, 2851 E. Bonanza Road in Las Vegas. The event is free and open to the public, and school supplies will be given to the first 250 families.
Along with this event, there will also be a family resource fair hosted at the library, to create awareness of the programs and resources the new library has to offer.
Support for the Kickoff to Kindergarten event will be provided by Las Vegas-Clark County Library District; Vegas PBS; Acelero Learning Centers; Clark County School District Family And Community Engagement Services & Child Find; Children’s Cabinet; Family to Family Connection; Lakeshore Learning; The Las Vegas Astronomical Society; Las Vegas Urban League-Early Childhood Connection; University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine; University of Nevada, Las Vegas’s Lead Poisoning Prevention; Las Vegas Area Council; Boy Scouts of America; Cooperative Extension 4-H and Healthy Kids Early Start; Strong Start Go Mobile PreK classroom on wheels (City of Las Vegas); Las Vegas Natural History Museum; U.S. Census; Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada; University Medical Center’s Healthy Living Institute; Just in Time Parenting and Waterford UPSTART.
