Cooperative Extension offers Nevada Naturalist Certification Program March 25-May 25

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering the spring session of the Nevada Naturalist Program in Las Vegas beginning March 25 to provide a broad understanding of nature for adults interested in learning, volunteering, teaching and participating in conservation projects locally.

“This program gives participants the skills and confidence necessary to make a difference for environmental stewardship and conservation in southern Nevada,” said Natural Resources and Professional Horticulture Program Manager Denise Parsons, with Cooperative Extension.

Participants who complete the spring classes and a capstone project on an environmental topic of their choice become certified Nevada Naturalists. Once certified, participants can engage in community education programs, environmental restoration and enhancement projects, and other activities with program partners. In 2018, Nevada Naturalists volunteered more than 3,000 hours.

Classes will be held 6-9 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, March 25-May 25, at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Lifelong Learning Center at 8050 Paradise Road in Las Vegas. Classes will also be held Saturdays at various times and locations. Topics will include:

  • Native Flora and Fauna
