Fun to Play | Touch, Sight and Hearing
for parents and their young children
Save an egg carton to use as the collection box for this toy. Collect different items around the house that have different textures—rough, smooth, bumpy, shiny, furry, sticky, etc. Cut small pieces from each item, and glue securely into the bottom of each section of the egg carton. Here are some things you might use: sandpaper, aluminum foil, felt, cotton ball, sponge, wash cloth, tape, vinyl, beans, or un-popped pop corn. Your child will enjoy feeling and talking about the different things in the collection. Make sure that each item is firmly glued into the egg carton each time you and your child play with it. Put the Texture Collection in a safe place after you are done with the activity. Your child will enjoy homemade toys because you are there to play with him.
