Western Alfalfa and Forage Conference in Reno, Dec. 11-13

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will join eleven western states in sponsoring a regional Western Alfalfa & Forage Conference, Dec. 11-13 at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Reno.

The conference will address current and emerging issues that are facing western ranchers who produce alfalfa and forage crops. Topics will include emerging issues and market trends; water, economics and profitability; pest management; utilizing a wide range of forage crops; irrigation and soils; harvesting technology and quality; risk management in forage production, and future trends in alfalfa and forages.

The conference will begin on Monday, Dec. 11 with a tour of Nevada agriculture, water systems and tourist sites with Jay Davison, UNCE area sustainable crop and forage specialist. Other UNCE faculty who will present workshops are Extension Educator Willie Riggs on risk management and Kynda Curtis on estate planning. An auction for hay growers' groups, a cowboy poetry presentation and exhibits will be featured.
