The 10th annual conference to promote awareness and stewardship education and service

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension invites residents to attend the 10th Annual Alliance of Natural Resource Outreach and Service (ANROSP) conference being held at the Clark County Wetlands Park. The conference begins on September 15 at 6 p.m. and ends on September 18 at 1 p.m.

For the first time ever, program participants and volunteers are invited to attend alongside program directors and coordinators for this engaging conference! This conference is for member programs, their volunteers and partner organizations that facilitate and participate in training and volunteer opportunities in natural resource conservation, education and outreach.

Being held at picturesque Clark County Wetlands Park, this dynamic conference will feature nationally-recognized wildlife artist and naturalist, Sharon Schafer, who will present her award-winning multi-media presentation showcasing wildlife areas surrounding Las Vegas.

Keynote Speaker, Dr. Allison Brody, will present Best Practices for Environmental Education and Interpretation which will help audiences understand and connect to the environment so they might be inspired to be involved in natural resource conservation.

Break-out sessions will be presented by speakers from across the U.S. Topics include family nature and youth programming; ecosystems with citizen science; volunteer program overviews; program evaluation practices; creating fun and interactive programs; and more.

Participants will be given the choice to attend one of three exciting and informative field trips.

The Desert National Wildlife Refuge, Corn Creek Field Station. Join Anica Mercado, interpretive educator, on a hike along the "Birdsong Trail", as well as a visit to the "Spectacular" new visitor center.

Visit the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Embark on a bus tour with Dr. Nick Saines, geologist and naturalist, as he discusses the geology and archaeology of one of the most spectacular desert landscapes in southern Nevada. The tour includes six stops with short walks (not hikes) that showcase unique geology not found anywhere else.

Tour Cooperative Extension’s Lifelong Learning Center. Reptile lovers rejoice! Join Professor M.L. Robinson in an interactive workshop featuring rare and often elusive—and venomous desert reptiles. Immediately following the presentation, Cooperative Extension staff will lead you on a tour of the gardens featuring native plants; and take you to the outdoor education center where you will have the opportunity to view research being conducted in sustainable gardening, desert composting, and more.
