4-H Capital Days welcomes youth to participate in legislature
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s (UNCE) 2013 4-H Capital Days program will be held March 10-11 in Carson City, Nev. This year’s program welcomes 50 participants from eight Nevada counties.
Capital Days is an educational program to teach youth 13-19 about Nevada government and its processes as well as encourage youth to be civically engaged citizens in their communities. The youth who attend are required to attend two pre-conference sessions to gain a better understanding of Nevada’s government before the actual event.
During the two-day event, youth will participate in workshops such as Bill Writing, Parliamentary Procedure, Youth Voices in Action, and a Mock Session. The youth also have the opportunity to tour the legislative building and sit with their appropriate legislators at a real legislative floor session.
“The biggest piece of knowledge I would like to see youth come away with from Capital Days is the simplicity and importance of approaching their representatives in order to make their voice heard,” Nevada State 4-H activities coordinator, Jessica Poole said.
