2013 Tree Care Seminar and Workshop Scheduled
In an effort to educate the green industry and arborist community on tree care and best practices, Clark County Cooperative Extension presents the Annual Professional Tree Care Seminar and Workshop in English and in Spanish. This year, the emphasis will be urban tree care: best practices-the first 7 years. The seminar will be held at Cooperative Extension’s Lifelong Learning Center located at 8050 Paradise Road, LV 89123.
Other topics covered include: Palm Problems that Aren’t (Early Bird Session at 6:15 a.m.); Soils, Mulches, and Fertilizers; Proven Choices for Trees in southern Nevada; Staking and Pruning—the first 7 years; Prominent Diseases of Trees in southern Nevada; Insect problems in tress of southern Nevada.
Afternoon, hands-on sessions are offered from 2:00—3:30 covering topics of choice: (1) Pruning Roses; (2) Pruning Palms; (3) Pruning Shrubs/Trees; (4) Pruning ground covers/grasses.
The English language seminar will be held on February 1 and the Spanish language seminar on February 8. Both seminars are from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with early registration beginning at 6 a.m. Guest lecturers and speakers include Russ Thompson, Sunkissed Horticulture Consultants; Lisa Ortega, City of Henderson; David Howlett, NV Division of Forestry; Norm Schilling, Schilling Horticulture; J Zambo, First Choice Trees; Dr. Angela O’Callaghan and ML Robinson, Cooperative Extension; and Dennis Swartzel, private consultant.
The cost of the full day seminar which includes handouts, coffee, beverages and lunch is $15 if you pre-register and $20 at the door.
