The Western Nevada Development District (WNDD) received the National Association of Development Organization’s (NADO) 2012 Innovation Award. WNDD, a partnership between University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, and the University Center for Economic Development, was presented the award in Las Vegas on Oct. 13.
The Western Nevada Development District (WNDD) was the motivating force in the introduction of USDA Rural Development’s Stronger Economies Together (SET) program in Nevada. In particular, WNDD used the SET process to strengthen the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for Nevada.
The SET program, the only economically development administration in Nevada, won in particular for its work to provide the SET strategic region planning processes to nine counties in Nevada. The project was one of 64 projects from 22 states recognized by NADO for their creative approaches to economic development.
The blueprint for economic development will be unveiled Nov. 28 as the SET Regional Team will meet in Fallon to finalize the planning process and begin implementing the plan.
