Events help introduce new UNCE Educators in White Pine, Eureka counties

The Cooperative Extension offices in Ely, Eureka and Battle Mountain recently held open houses on consecutive nights to help introduce two new Extension Educators to their local communities.

In Ely, the White Pine Cooperative Extension office introduced its new Extension Educator, Seth Urbanowitz, who used the open house event to meet local residents and to let them know what kind of programs are offered by Cooperative Extension. That Oct. 11 event was preceded by an open house in Eureka on Oct. 9 hosted by the new Extension Educator there, Fred Steinmann, and by an open house in Battle Mountain hosted by long-time Lander County Extension Educator Rod Davis.

Loretta Singletary, the Central/Northwest Area director for Cooperative Extension who oversees those three offices, attended all the gatherings and said they were very successful.

“We are always looking for new ways to connect with our communities and let residents know we are there to help them,” Singletary said.

Singletary said it was also important to have the open houses close together so residents could see that the three Extension Educators will be working together on programs for the different counties.

“Each of these Educators has a different skill set and a different background and they will be working together as well as individually to assess the counties’ needs and bring necessary programs to these communities,” Singletary said.

Urbanowitz said he’s is seeking out every opportunity to meet people in the community to learn what they are interested in as well as communicate to them what Cooperative Extension has to offer them.

“Cooperative Extension has always played a major role in White Pine County and I want to continue that tradition,” Urbanowitz said.

Steinmann said he was excited to meet residents in Eureka County and discuss the needs of the communities.

“I’m eager to start bringing programs to Eureka that meet the real needs of its citizens,” Steinmann said.
