Rose Society Schedules Fall Educational Meetings

Clark County Cooperative Extension (UNCE) and the South Valley Rose Society are collaborating and offering educational meetings. Free and open to the public, meeting topics and dates are:

October 25, Preparing the Soil for Planting, Sal Ramirez, owner Vira Grow. What soil amendments and fertilizers are found in the “recipe”? What is their purpose? What benefit do they provide roses? What soil composition is best for in ground and container roses? Do mulches add to soil improvement? If so, what kind?

November 15, New Varieties, Shrub and Landscape Roses, Steve Schneider, Consulting Rosarian. What are the differences between the hybrid teas, floribundas, grande floras, miniatures? What are “Old Garden Roses (OGRs)? What are Self Cleaning roses? Why are the markets expanding into new varieties?
