UNCE Forage Update offers insight, expertise for forage producers

Posted 10/3/2011

Although Nevada is often mistaken as being inhospitable for agriculture, the state boasts a thriving community of forage producers in both the north and south. To address the needs of this population, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will host the 2011 Nevada Forage Update, a series of meetings and workshops held from Oct. 24-27, which will provide information related to irrigation techniques, market forecasting and a variety of other forage-related issues.

“The goal of the 2011 Forage Update is to ultimately help forage producers optimize their operations,” said Pershing County Extension Educator Steve Foster. “We will be going over a lot of different issues related to forage production, such as marketing advice and weed control. There is a lot of valuable information that producers of all types can walk away with.”

The complete list of topics includes Market Outlook, Monitoring Soil Moisture for Irrigation Schedules, Forage Weed Control, Sponsor Update, Forage Varieties Update, Roundup Ready Alfalfa and Seed Technology Update. Pesticide applicators will have the opportunity to earn one hour of CEU credit, and crop advisors can also earn up to two hours of CEU credit.
