Extension’s Reno offices moving to new location
Move to Energy Way needed because existing office is in a floodplain
The Western Area offices of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will open at a new location Monday, March 28.
The Western Area, which runs Extension programs for various northwestern Nevada counties, is vacating its current headquarters at 5305 Mill Street and moving about a mile south to 4955 Energy Way in Reno.
UNCE Area Director Frank Flavin said his Western Area office was required to move because the lease for its Mill Street building had expired and could not be renewed because the building sits in the Truckee River flood zone.
The building at 4955 Energy Way is larger than the Mill Street building, and will be better able to accommodate various Extension classes, such as its Master Gardener training sessions. About 50 faculty and support staff work in the Reno office of the Western Area.
Extension is planning a Grand Opening for its new location but a firm date hasn’t been set. The Master Gardener Plant Faire, held in previous years at experimental garden next to the Mill Street building, will be held at the Energy Way building on May 21.
