Conservation trees and shrubs available

Posted 3/10/2011

The Humboldt County 4-H Small Animal Committee is teaming up with the Nevada Division of Forestry to bring north central Nevadans a wide selection of conservation plant material at a reasonable cost. Plants available include evergreens, conifers, and deciduous trees and shrubs. New this year is common yarrow, blanket flower and blue flax.

All plant materials are from the Nevada Division of Forestry Nursery in Washoe Valley and are selected for adaptability to northern Nevada’s soil and climate.

You must purchase at least five of any species. The seedlings arrive in black 2.5-inch by 10-inch d-pots and t-pots and cost $3 to $4 per plant. The yarrow, blanket flower and blue flax are in one gallon pots and cost $4.

Order forms are available at the Humboldt County Extension Office, 1085 Fairgrounds Road and will be taken until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2010.

The plants will be ready for pickup in early May and can picked up at the 4-H Pavilion at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.

For more information, call the Extension Office at 623-6304.
