Free--Make Time To Move Mini-Workshop Scheduled

Make plans now to attend the Make Time To Move Mini-Workshop scheduled for Saturday, November 13, 2010. The Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Lifelong Learning (8050 Paradise Road, LV 89123, Windmill Lane and I-215).

Make Time To Move is a physical activity workshop for women. Attendees will participate in a variety of activities that can be incorporated into their daily life. The 45-minute activities include walking/poker walk, yoga, tai chi, and body stretching. Each session will be presented three times. Weather permitting, some sessions will be held outside at the Outdoor Education Center.

The Workshop is designed to encourage people to just move. Adults need 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week. It does no matter how you use the minutes, just make time to move. Research shows many benefits of physical activity. It helps to prevent and control chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease and stroke, diabetes, some cancers and obesity. Physical activity also helps to control weight, it strengthens bones and muscles and improves mental health.

Make Time To Move Mini-Workshop is a spin-off from the popular Loving Your Heart conference which was previously funded under a grant for The Healthy Hearts Project from the Centers for Disease Control. Community partners include Southern Nevada Black Nurses Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Southern Nevada Coalition of Concerned Women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Southern Nevada Health District, Links, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction and The Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
