Home-grown Pear and Early Apple Festival Scheduled for August 21
Along with Whole Foods Market, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s (UNCE) Orchard will be hosting a Pear and Early Apple Festival on August 21. This is your chance to purchase home-grown, pesticide free fruit-fresh from the garden. There will also be freezing and drying demonstrations and information on canning pears and apples. The Festival-from 9 a.m.to Noon-will be at Whole Foods Market, 8855 W. Charleston Blvd., LV 89117.
The pears, Monterrey, and the apples, Gala and Mutsu, will be supplied from the UNCE and Gilcrease Orchards. Also available at the Festival will be bee boxes. Bee boxes encourage the nesting of local, native bees. They pollinate in your vegetable garden and will not become "Africanized." Stop by and look them over and build your own or take one home for a small donation (usually 8 dollars for the basic box).
