Posted 9/30/2009

Carson City, Nevada -- Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About 4-H will be the theme of an open house hosted by the Carson City/Storey County 4-H program. The open house will be held October 15 at 6:30 pm at the Carson City/Storey County Cooperative Extension Office, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 12, Carson City. The open house hopes to attract new families to learn about current projects offered. Current members and their families are also welcomed to learn more about different projects and clubs, local leadership opportunities, and national 4-H conferences and congress. For more details about the open house, please call Sandy Wallin or Jim Barcellos at the UNCE office, 887-2252. 4-H is a youth development program offered in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and Carson City / Storey County. Experiential "hands-on" learning is offered through traditional Project/Club models as well as during out-of-school time (afterschool, summer school, etc.) programs, camps and workshops. Open Houses are geared toward enrollment in 4-H Projects/Clubs (like dogs, horses, livestock, rabbits, shooting sports, ski/snowboard, arts and crafts, GPS/Orienteering, photography, etc.) Youth may enroll in the Carson City / Storey County 4-H program by attending the upcoming Open House or by contacting the UNCE-Carson City / Storey County Office (775-887-2252). 4-H is dependent on volunteer leaders willing to donate their time, labor and knowledge to help develop young people. If you are interested in being a 4-H Leader, please contact the UNCE- Carson City / Storey County Office 775-887-2252 to get started.
