LYON COUNTY — Today, in lieu of purchasing individual 4-H and FFA market livestock projects, Silverado Ranch Supply and Silverado Mercantile jointly donated $5,000 to support 4-H and FFA market livestock projects. A portion of these funds will be distributed equally to Lyon County 4-H and FFA exhibitors qualifying at the Lyon County Junior Livestock Show for the 2009 Nevada Junior Livestock Show (NJLS.) These funds will be distributed after NJLS and could be used to reimburse NJLS exhibitor travel costs and/or costs of feeding and caring for market livestock projects. Youth may choose to save these funds to help purchase next year’s livestock project.

“There are many ways a business or individual may support youth livestock programs; Silverado Ranch Supply and Silverado Mercantile are really making an effort to support all market livestock exhibitors equally” says Andrew Munk, N. Lyon County 4-H Program Manager. “Market livestock projects provide youth the opportunity to develop life-skills through experiential learning and honor Nevada’s agricultural heritage.”

The donation will be managed by UNCE-Lyon County 4-H as organizers of the Lyon County Junior Livestock Show, tentatively scheduled for April 26, 2009. UNCE-Lyon County 4-H supports this generous donation and encourages other businesses in Lyon County to donate funds to youth livestock programs similarly.
