Earth Day Celebrated in Hawthorne
In September 1969, at a conference in Seattle, Washington, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on the environment. Earth Day founder Nelson first proposed the nationwide environmental protest to thrust the environment onto the national agenda. Each year, Earth Day - April 22 - marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Although, the annual Earth Day is celebrated nationally on April 22nd, for practical purposes Hawthorne will celebrate it on Saturday April 26th.
The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Mineral County is hosting an Earth Day Fair on April 26, 2008 at Patriot’s Plaza.
