Master Gardener class registration
LAS VEGAS—The next University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) Master Gardener horticulture training class will be held September 7 through November 2. The classes are every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Registration meeting for the Master Gardener Fall 2007 Training Class is on Monday, August 13, 2007, from 9 a.m. to noon at the UNCE Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 S. Maryland Parkway. Due to the high demand for Master Gardener training, interested individuals must attend this session in order to be eligible to enter the Fall Training class. Please make a reservation by calling Jane Strickland, Program Assistant, at 257-5501.
The Registration meeting will detail the specifics of the Master Gardener volunteer program. Current Master Gardeners and UNCE Horticulture staff will outline the training program, volunteer commitment and Master Gardener community projects, including the 2009 International Master Gardener Conference to be held in Las Vegas. Application forms will be distributed, and all applicants will receive a personal interview with a current Master Gardener.
A fee of $200.00 will be charged to cover the cost of books, training materials and refreshments. The fee is payable at the first class.
Master Gardeners are dedicated community volunteers. To become a Master Gardener, an applicant must complete 70 hours of horticultural instruction, pass a comprehensive examination and volunteer a minimum of 50 hours of public service each year through the UNCE program. The Southern Nevada program has over 200 active Master Gardeners.
