Nevada Naturalist Sept. 2016 Lecture Series
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension presents Inspiring Connections Outdoors overview
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Nevada Naturalist program presents Las Vegas ICO: Inspiring Connections Outdoors as the Sept. 13, 2016 Lecture Series topic. The hour-long presentation is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m.
Las Vegas ICO—Inspiring Connections Outdoors, an outreach program of the Sierra Club, provides nature outings and wilderness experiences for underserved urban youth in the Las Vegas area. Volunteer leaders work in cooperation with community agencies and schools to provide safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences to young people who might not otherwise have them. ICO participants learn to forge a meaningful bond with nature so that they will appreciate its wonder and understand the need for its protection.
Join Las Vegas ICO founding members, Betty Gallifent and Barbara Gerhardt, as they provide an overview of Las Vegas ICO, share interesting success stories and discuss volunteer opportunities for this worthwhile organization.
Both Gallifent and Gerhardt are retired educators, having worked for Clark County School District for 36 and 27 years respectively. Gallifent is a founding member of Las Vegas ICO and now serves as chair. Gerhardt serves as their outings chair.
The 2016 Sept. Lecture Series will be held at the Lifelong Learning Center located at 8050 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, Nev. For more information, email or call Denise Parsons at 702-948-5906.
