Pesticide Safety Education Program
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Pesticide Safety Education Program provides Web-based training for pesticide applicators seeking to apply restricted and general use pesticides safely, properly and according to the law. Pesticide licensure and certification is administered by the Nevada Department of Agriculture.
In order to buy and apply restricted-use pesticides in Nevada, an applicator must be certified by passing a certification examination administered by the Nevada Department of Agriculture and must retest every four years to maintain certification. Recertification may be obtained by retesting or by completing 12 hours of continuing education during each 4-year period, including two hours of education on laws and regulations.
Licensed pesticide applicators, those persons who apply pesticides for hire, must pass a more rigorous exam administered by Nevada Department of Agriculture. There are specific requirements for education, experience, and background checks for licensed (for-hire) applicators. Licensed applicators must complete six hours of continuing education units (1 hour safety and 1 hour law are required) each year to keep their business license. If licensed applicators apply restricted use pesticides, they must be certified as well as licensed.

Master Gardeners in Nevada
Master Gardeners provide free, research-based horticulture information to Nevadans. They are volunteers who learn advanced plant science skills from at least 50 hours of classroom instruction by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) professionals. After training, Master Gardeners volunteer a minimum of at least 50 hours a year to pass along their newly acquired knowledge through the media, talks and workshops. They answer phone calls, send out informational materials and develop community gardens.
