November gardening classes at Acacia Park

Posted 10/2/2014

Free and open to the public, all classes begin at 9 a.m.

Southern Area Master Gardeners—for the 10th year—will offer a series of free classes at Acacia Park in the fall. Classes are offered in partnership with the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and are published in the “Henderson Happenings.” All classes will be taught by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardener instructors and begin at 9 a.m. Online, pre-registration is requested.

Master Gardener Libby Powell will discuss How to deal with Weeds and Insects on November 1. Nothing is more frustrating than weeds and insects that destroy your landscape. Learn how to deal with these problems and how to scout your yard and control these problems before they become costly to fix.

The 411 on Fertilizers is the topic for the November 8 class presented by Master Gardener Mike Bell. There is so much in the news and on the internet about the harm and problems with fertilizers. Find out what should be done to add nutrients to the soil for gorgeous plants and still have a safe landscape for the family and pets.

The November 15 class topic is Getting Ready for the Winter presented by Master Gardener Jodi Starkey. Winter will be here soon, so now is the time to learn some simple techniques to protect your plants from cold winter temperatures.

Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will have an “Ask a Master Gardener” table at the Park on class days. Acacia Park is located at 50 Casa Del Fuego (Intersection of 215 and 515) in Henderson, Nev. Master Gardener volunteers are also available to answer questions through the Home Gardening Help Line 702-257-5555. The Help Line is staffed Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
