Cooperative Extension and Rose Society Meetings
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the South Valley Rose Society are collaborating and offering educational meetings during the fall. Free and open to the public, meeting topics and dates are:
September 22, 2011—Getting Ready for Backyard Rose Expo—Steve and Janet Schneider, together have over 25 years experience growing roses and founders of the South Valley Rose Society and Consulting Rosarian, will discuss the types of roses to plant according to amended Horticulture Specimen Classes list; the classifications explained; how to choose specimens; transporting specimens and completing entry forms.
October 27, 2011—Backyard Rose Expo—Judges Lee Heenan, Dick Jackson, Jackie Jackson and John Vinson will explain the Dos and Don’ts of exhibiting. Don’t be shy, share your roses.
November 17, 2011—Pest Control—Bob Morris, Cooperative Extension Emeritus Faculty and columnist for the Las Vegas Review Journal/Sun, will describe common garden pests in gardens and orchards; organic and inorganic control; soil problems and mulching.
