Fruit, Bee Boxes and more available at the Master Gardener Orchard
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Orchard in North Las Vegas offers home-grown fruit for purchase. The Orchard is only open to the public on volunteer days-Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 7 a.m. to noon. Beginning in May, apricots will be ripe.
There is also fruit wood available for smoking and grilling at $1 per pound. The Orchard offers bee boxes-usually a $5 donation for the basic box.
Back by popular demand-the Community Mulch Pile. This is coarse, organic wood mulch chipped from trees removed in the Las Vegas community. Rather than send this valuable resource to the landfill we are capturing it at the Orchard and making it available for your use.
The mulch is located inside the Orchard facility. You can stop by and pick up as much as you want at during Orchard hours-mornings, Monday-Thursday and Saturday.
This is coarse mulch so it will not blow under high winds and allows good water and air penetration to the roots. It will decompose in a couple of years, adding organic matter to your soil, lowering the soil pH and encouraging soil microorganisms and worms. The Orchard uses four to six inches around the fruit trees.
There might be a possibility of direct delivery for loads over 10 cubic yards. Please call 702-257-5555 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org .
