Free Community Educational Service Offered - Completing your Advance Medical Directives

Posted 1/14/2010

Completing your Advanced Medical Directive-making your general medical wishes known- might sound like a timely and tedious task. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension makes this process easier by offering free, by appointment, sessions each month. The session (available in English and in Spanish) will address living wills for healthcare, assigning a durable power of attorney for your health care, a brief overview of your patient rights and health care ethics to navigate the health care system.

The session offers exercises based on five wishes, or principal objectives, to be written into a legal form to help you and your loved ones determine (1) who you want to make health care decisions for you when you can’t make them; (2) the kind of medical treatment you want or don’t want; (3) how comfortable you want to be; (4) how you want people to treat you; (5) what you want your loved ones to know. Now is the best time to make these choices known!
