The 2018 Kiwanis 4-H/FFA Invitational Livestock Judging will be held on Saturday, March 3, at the Elko County Fairgrounds. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with introductions at 9:00 a.m. The judging will start promptly at 9:15 a.m.  Registration is $5.00 (please bring correct change). Lunch is provided by the Elko Kiwanis. Each club is asked to bring three dozen cookies.

Junior, Intermediate and Senior 4-H members, as well as zone FFA members may participate. Youth will be asked to judge three placement classes and one oral reasons class on each of the four species (beef, sheep, goat and swine). Members need to wear official 4-H dress. Remember: once a member has started judging, contact with leaders and parents must stop until after the judging.

The Skillathon will begin after the judging is finished.

This evidence-based campaign focuses on building fruit and vegetable consumption in children through healthy snacking. Pick a bettersnack™ is a monthly, in-school nutrition education program for primary grade children in at-risk elementary schools in Clark and Washoe counties in Nevada. In addition to direct instruction, staff works with school wellness coordinators to build meaningful and sustainable programming to create a well environment in every school

Chefs for Kids, Inc. is a joint venture of the American Culinary Federation Chefs of Las Vegas and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. The Chefs for Kids program works to eliminate malnutrition and hunger through education and awareness. Chefs teamed up with nutrition educators who developed nutrition curricula for first and second grade children. The curricula use age-appropriate techniques and bilingual materials, providing students with the essential nutrition knowledge necessary to adopt healthful eating habits. Educators teach students how to choose healthy foods from those available to them, develop active lifestyles and use good food safety skills, such as proper hand-washing.
