University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Southern Area has a monthly community newsletter available via e-mail distribution. Extension Connection is now available to view online at www.youtube.com/UNRExtension. Extension Connection is the premier Southern Area Cooperative Extension cable access TV show. Each month, two to three programs are showcased and aired on Clark County TV4, Boulder City TV and UNLV TV100. Extension Connection offers information about our programs, services and events available to the community.  Steven Hollingsworth, a community-based instructor with the Children, Youth and Families team, hosts the show.  Contact Marilyn Ming for more information.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will offer the Nuts and Bolts of Grant Writing on Wednesday, April 14. The one-day class session will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center located at 8050 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, (I-215 and Windmill Lane).

During the day, non-profit and government organization participants will learn how to: develop a community needs assessment, set goals, write outcome objectives, create a working budget, develop a budget and a budget narrative and much more. The class instructor is Pamela Kahn-Van Pelt, grant and resource specialist for Cooperative Extension. Click here for more information and to register.

It’s tax preparation season, and Nevadans with questions about deductions, Social Security benefits, 401(K) accounts and other personal finance issues can get thorough, reliable answers through University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and eXtension.org.

 The Web site eXtension.org is an interactive learning environment delivering information from Cooperative Extension experts from all over Nevada and the United States. The eXtension.org site’s “Ask an Expert” feature, accessible through the website  provides prompt, research-based answers to a wide range of questions – from tax, retirement and personal finance issues to queries about when to plant heirloom tomatoes. The answers are provided by researchers from around the country who collaborate on their answers and provide information that’s based on sound research.
