Cooperative Extension’s Radon Education Program has announced the winners of the 2013 Nevada Radon Poster Contest. Three poster contest winners were from Las Vegas.
A special Las Vegas Awards Ceremony will be held Jan. 16 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Rd. The winners will receive their participation certificates, as well as the governor’s certificate, and award checks. The winning teachers will also receive their award checks at the ceremony. - 11am Apples, Pears, Quince and the Pome Fruits
- 12am Miscellaneous Fruit Trees (Pomegranates, Persimmon and Others)

Cooperative Extension’s Chefs for Kids program and the A.C.F. Chefs of Las Vegas want to set a record and you can help. Make plans now to ring in the New Year with the largest chef’s run ever done! The Chefs for Kids 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk is scheduled for Saturday, January 19, 2013. Each runner and walker receives a long-sleeved T-shirt, goodie bag and free pancake breakfast! There will also be a raffle. The start time is 9 a.m. at Wayne Bunker Family Park (7351 West Alexander Road, LV 89129). Here’s how to join!
Homeowners and other interested parties are welcome to attend Cooperative Extension on Saturday, January 12, 2013 for a workshop on Gardening in Small Places-Pruning from 9 a.m. to noon. The class, taught by Dr. Angela O’Callaghan, is designed to demonstrate pruning techniques for the desert. The class will cover pruning fruit trees, ornamentals and desert plants.
