University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will offer a series of free classes at Acacia Park in conjunction with the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. All classes will be taught by Master Gardener instructors and begin at 9 a.m. The line-up includes:
- November 5, Herb Gifts for the Holidays—Herbs are easy to grow and have many uses. Can they make gifts as the holiday seasons approach? Master Gardeners will discuss ways to use herbs that can be given as gifts to friends and family.
- November 12, Fall Vegetables for a Winter Garden—Fall is the best time for growing greens in the garden to include spinach, leaf lettuce, broccoli, kale; and root vegetables like carrots, beets, turnips, onions and more. Learn from the Master Gardeners how to get your vegetable garden off to a good start this fall.

October 27, 2011—Backyard Rose Expo—Judges Lee Heenan, Dick Jackson, Jackie Jackson and John Vinson will explain the Dos and Don’ts of exhibiting. Don’t be shy, share your roses.

The first annual Chefs for Kids (CFK) golf tournament will be held at Painted Desert Golf Course on Sunday, October 23. Cooperative Extension’s Chefs for Kids program is a joint effort of the American Culinary Federation Chefs of Las Vegas and Cooperative Extension. Chefs for Kids, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization, committed to eliminating malnutrition and hunger in children through education and awareness. The tournament is being sponsored by the BrownBlankfeld Group.
Early registration for the Tournament is $100 per player prior to October 13 ($110 after). The format is a four-person scramble. You can pick your own team, or you will be assigned to a team. The fee includes greens fee, cart, range balls, luncheon following, snacks on several holes and a team photo. Awards for winning team, longest drive and closest to the pin on par 3 will be presented.
