University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will offer the Nuts and Bolts of Grant Writing on September 22, October 7 and November 18.  The one-day class session will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center located at 8050 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, (I-215 and Windmill Lane).  During the day, non-profit and government organization participants will learn how to: develop a community needs assessment, set goals, write outcome objectives, create a working budget, develop a budget and a budget narrative and much more. The class instructor is Pamela Kahn-Van Pelt, grant and resource specialist for Cooperative Extension.  Space is limited. Composting in Small Spaces Workshop January 16, 2010

Join Cooperative Extension on Saturday, September 25, for a one-day workshop on composting in small spaces. The class runs from 8 a.m. to Noon. and explains how to make a balanced compost. The workshop is designed to provide the gardener with knowledge on how to make a balanced compost, vermicomposting and more. Homeowners and other interested parties are welcome to attend. Details!

Products from the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Orchard, Gilcrease Orchard, China Ranch Date Farm and growers from Pahrump, Alamo and Moapa Valley will be selling high quality fresh vegetables and fruit. The public is invited to attend from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Radon Education Program is sponsoring a poster contest for all Nevada children between the ages of 9 and 14. The first-place winner will receive $50 and the second- and third-place entries will receive $25 each. The deadline for entries is Oct. 31, and the top three posters will be entered in the 2011 National Radon Poster Contest by Nov. 15.  The top three national winners will receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the Award Ceremony in January. The winning national poster will also be reproduced on next year’s poster contest promotional materials.

Contestants can be enrolled in a public, private, territorial, tribal, Department of Defense or home school. Children can also enter through a sponsoring club, such as an art, computer or science club, scouting organization or 4-H club. To enter, click here!
