Small Space Gardening Class, February 27, 2010
Join University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) on Saturday, September 11, 2010, for a workshop on vegetable gardening in small spaces from 8 a.m. to noon. The class, taught by Dr. Angela O’Callaghan, is designed to show you how to make the most of your small space. Topics such as types of containers to use, differences in potting mixes, using artificial light, fertilizers, success with seeds and more will be covered. Homeowners and other interested parties are welcome to attend.
Class space is limited and pre-registration is required. There is a $15 fee which includes class materials.

Pear & Early Apple Festival
Along with Whole Foods Market, Cooperative Extension’s (UNCE) Orchard will be hosting a Pear and Early Apple Festival on August 21. This is your chance to purchase home-grown, pesticide free fruit-fresh from the garden and bee boxes. The Festival-from 9 a.m.to Noon-will be at Whole Foods Market, 8855 W. There is still time—and space—to register for University of Nevada Cooperative Extension upcoming Fall 2010 Master Gardener Training. The fall training class begins on Monday, September 13, 2010. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. There are twenty-four classes.
The Master Gardener program teaches sustainable desert gardening practices, including proper plant selection and care, disease and pest management and water-efficient gardening. To become a Master Gardener, an individual must complete 72 hours of horticultural instruction and volunteer 50 hours on community projects each year. Click here for more information.
